Chapter two, to me, exploits the characters true colors. Tom, as in chapter One, is a selfish person who just has mixed feelings about his life and takes his anger out in vicious ways. Nick, continuously seems like an innocent and humble man. I thought that he might have some internal issues running through his head. Myrtle is characterized stereotypically like any other mistress-- as a woman longing for Toms love. She obviously wants him to end his marriage the question is why wouldn't he? By violently breaking her nose when mentioning his wife shows that he just wants to sugar-coat reality.
